video2brain Business Challenge
Give as many people as possible access to video2brain‘s great online video learning library and enable lifelong learning, anywhere, anytime.
video2brain is Europe’s market leader in video learning offering over 80,000 training videos and more than 2,100 courses with a focus on IT and creative themes for photographers, graphic designers, web developers and UI designers in a number of languages.
Design, engineer and maintain the entire video2brain online video learning platform and ecosystem for more than 15 years.
Parkside engaged a dedicated UX/UI and engineering team to develop, maintain and improve the whole video2brain ecosystem as well as to help video2brain to succeed in times of major technological leaps (e.g. from DVD sales to subscription-based business model).
Parkside’s ongoing work for video2brain culminated in video2brain becoming Europe’s leading video learning platform. video2brain was acquired by Lynda.com which in turn was acquired by LinkedIn in 2015 for 1.5 billion US dollars.
Over the course of 15 years, Parkside was responsible for the entire video2brain platform including
- Concept & product development
- Frontend & backend development
- CMS & API development
- Mobile apps including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows 8
- Business intelligence setup
We started to work together with video2brain back in 2002. Initially, we developed the software that was running on the video training DVDs that video2brain produced in Graz/Austria and distributed via various publishing houses. Sometime after that, the time came to start making the DVDs available online, so we partnered again to create a web platform that made this possible. That included everything, from UX/UI design to frontend development, backend and CMS development as well as taking care of hosting. At first, the DVDs could be purchased online and they would then be shipped to the user's homes. video2brain soon realized that this business would scale better as an online video platform and added online courses along with their DVD sales. This meant we needed to build an entire video platform, including video player development and video delivery via streaming services.
After going international by expanding into the French, Spanish, Japanese and English speaking market, we also added subscription possibilities as the next major feature. video2brain quickly became the market leader in Europe, and after the success of the iPad, we started with our first mobile app for video2brain. Clearly, users liked watching online classes while on the go - so we also developed Android and iPhone versions following on the heels of the iPad version. After Microsoft introduced Windows 8, we also followed up with an app for Microsoft's tablet platforms.
“Parkside has been instrumental in building up video2brain. We could focus on the content, and they designed and developed our platform and all the applications we needed”
